This training presents and discusses the most effective Value Engineering (VE) techniques for identifying and eliminating unnecessary costs in project design, constructions, operations, maintenance procedures and practices and for improving performance and for enhancing value. The principles of VE, which are meant to improve reliability, quality, safety, production, performance and maintenance schedule, will be discussed during the training session. The training further covers systematic processes of review and analysis of a project, during the concept and design phases conducted by a multi-disciplined team of persons who are not directly involved in the project.
Training topics to be covered include:
• Fundamentals of VE
• Selection phase
• Investigation phase
• Speculation phase
• Evaluation phase
• Development phase
• Presentation phase
• Implementation phase
• Audit phase
• Closing out VE study
Upon the completion of this training, participants will be able to:
• Explain how VE can improve project performance, reduce cost and enhance value
• Investigate projects
• Analyze functions and costs of projects
• Speculate alternative ways to perform the various functions
• Evaluate the most effective life-cycle alternative
• Develop viable alternatives to fully support recommendations
• Present the recommendations to stakeholders and management
During the training, the instructor presents topics and activities in a logical sequence allowing participants to demonstrate their experience, knowledge and skills. The training sessions will be participatory and engaging training sessions will be conducted. Training participants will be requested to work in groups on a specific topic and they will present these to the class. The training delivery activities include lectures, class exercises, group discussions, instructor-led example problem sets, lively discussions and demonstration of Life-Cycle Cost Analysis (LCCA) applicable to Value Engineering studies.
The target audience for this training consists of agency personnel, contractor and consultants involved in project design, development, construction and maintenance of engineering infrastructure.
